HL Deb 02 March 1966 vol 273 c686

2.48 p.m.

LORD ST. JUST

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether the motor industry is cooperating fully with the Road Research Department of the Ministry of Transport over internal safety design of cars, taking into account the ever increasing speeds possible in present day design.]

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF POWER (LORD LINDGREN)

My Lords, the motor industry is co-operating closely with the Road Research Laboratory in several ways. Tests have been conducted by the Laboratory in co-operation with leading car manufacturers with a view to providing better crash protection. The industry has also provided cars of current and future design for impact experiments and for the development of protective barrier and guard rails. Results from the Laboratory's research have been, and are increasingly being, applied in design.

LORD ST. JUST

My Lords, I should like to thank the noble Lord for that full Answer.
