Order of the Day read for the consideration of the First Report from the Committee.

The Committee's Report was as follows:

1.—APPOINTMENT OF SUB-COMMITTEES

  1. (a) The Administration Committee:
with the Clerk of the Parliaments.

With power to co-opt further Lords.

  1. (b) Library:
The Lord Great Chamberlain

with the Clerk of the Parliaments.

With power to co-opt further Lords

  1. (c) Refreshment Department:
with the Clerk of the Parliaments.

With power to co-opt further Lords and to appoint its own Chairman.

  1. (d) House of Lords' Estimates:

2. LIBRARY

A report from the Sub-Committee on the Library upon certain matters referred to it was laid before the Committee; also the Report for the year 1965.

3. REFRESHMENT DEPARTMENT

The Committee considered a Report from the Sub-Committee on the Refreshment Department and were informed that owing to rising costs the Sub-Committee have decided to increase prices throughout the Department.

4. PARLIAMENT OFFICE

The Clerk of the Parliaments informed the Committee of the appointment of Mr. D. Dewar as a Senior Clerk in the Parliament Office from April 1, 1966.

The Committee authorised the appointment of an additional Personal Assistant on the staff of the Department of the Clerk of the Parliaments.

5. HANSARD REPORTING STAFF

The Committee authorised revised scales of salary for the Hansard Editorial staff with effect from January 1, 1966.

The Committee reviewed the Agreement with Haynes Secretarial Services for the supply of typists for the reporting of debates and approved an increase in their charges with effect from January 1, 1966.

6. DOORKEEPERS

The Committee authorised the appointment of an additional Doorkeeper for duties at Judicial Sittings.

7. DEPARTMENT OF THE LORD GREAT CHAMBERLAIN AND SERJEANT-AT-ARMS

The Committee authorised the payment of the salary of an additional Personal Assistant in the Office of the Lord Great Chamberlain for duties in connection with the State Opening of Parliament in April, 1966.

8. LIBRARY AND RECORD OFFICE

The Committee sanctioned an increase in the payments made to certain Office Assistants and Doorkeepers for cleaning and arranging of books and documents in the Library and the Victoria Tower during the Christmas and Summer Recesses with effect from the Christmas Recess 1965–66.
