HL Deb 24 February 1966 vol 273 c334
LORD FOLEY

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the first Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they are aware that, as stated in its Eighth Annual Report, published in June 1965, the British Section of the International Commission of Jurists (" Justice ") has set up a Committee to study the question of the inadequacy of the administrative machinery for investigating and dealing with complaints against the legal profession, and the difficulties experienced by clients in obtaining any satisfactory redress, and whether Her Majesty's Government have received any complaints from the public on this matter, and if so how many over what period.]

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD GARDINER)

My Lords, I am aware that a Committee has been set up for the purpose to which the noble Lord refers. I receive complaints on this subject from time to time, and so no doubt do other Ministers, but it would not be practicable to make any numerical analysis of these complaints. Most of those that I receive relate to matters for which no Minister is responsible.
