HL Deb 02 February 1966 vol 272 c364

2.37 p.m.

LORD COLWYN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the second Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will enact legislation requiring the provision of lavatory basins in all public-house toilets.]

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF LAND AND NATURAL RESOURCES (LORD MITCHISON)

My Lords, public-houses are among the kinds of premises at which local authorities can, under Section 89 of the Public Health Act 1936, require the provision of sanitary conveniences. My right honourable friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government is sympathetic towards the suggestion that this section should be amended to enable local authorities to require washing facilities also, and he will consider the matter further as soon as there is an opportunity for legislation.

LORD COLWYN

I thank the noble Lord very much for his Answer.
