HL Deb 02 June 1965 vol 266 cc1092-3
LORD SWAYTHLING

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the second Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will introduce legislation to enable courts hearing appeals against orders of disqualification from driving to review, and, if so minded, to alter, any part of the whole sentence imposed, since appellate courts at present, if the appeal is against the order of disqualification only, cannot review any other part of the sentence.]

LORD STONHAM

My Lords, an Interdepartmental Committee under the chairmanship of the noble and learned Lord, Lord Donovan, is at present considering, inter alia, what changes, if any, are desirable in the powers, practice, and procedure of the Court of Criminal Appeal. It would be premature to propose any modification of the powers of that Court, or of the corresponding powers of quarter sessions, before the Committee has reported.

LORD SWAYTHLING

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for his Answer.
