HL Deb 23 February 1965 vol 263 c814

LORD SWANSEA asked Her Majesty's Government:

In view of the rare occasions on which it is necessary for members of the police forces to be armed, what instruction is given to them in the use of firearms (especially pistols), other than that given in voluntary rifle clubs, in order that they may carry out such duties effectively without being a source of danger to each other or to members of the public.

LORD STONHAM: It is for chief officers of police to decide what training in the use of firearms should be given to members of their forces, and it has not been found necessary to issue any general guidance.

House adjourned at half-past nine o'clock.
