HL Deb 02 June 1964 vol 258 c373

2.35 p.m.

THE EARL OF GOSFORD

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether some more distinctive way of indicating No Left Turn and No Right Turn could be devised, as the present signs are indistinguishable one from the other at a distance at which cars should be manœuvring to get into their correct lanes.]

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT (LORD CHESHAM)

My Lords, I would refer my noble friend to the symbolic signs to indicate No Left and No Right Turns on page 103 of the Worboys Report. They will be prescribed in new Traffic Signs Regulations which are being drafted, and should be clearly distinguishable by drivers some distance in advance of the point at which a change of lane is necessary.

THE EARL OF GOSFORD

My Lords, I am most grateful for my noble friend's reply, which I am sure will receive the welcome of all motorists.
