HL Deb 29 July 1964 vol 260 c1089

2.35 p.m.

LORD BRAYE

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what facilities now exist for junior officers of Her Majesty's Forces to be lent or seconded to a branch of Her Majesty's Forces other than the one in which they are at present serving.]

THE MINISTER OF DEFENCE FOR THE ROYAL NAVY (EARL JELLICOE)

the loan or secondment of junior officers to branches of other Services. Where, however, there is a specific requirement for such transfers, the necessary arrange-such transfers, the necessary arrangements are made. There are, in fact, 34 junior officers on loan from their parent Services at present. In addition, there are many joint-Service establishments, like the anti-submarine school at Londonderry and the Joint Warfare Establishment at Old Sarum, where officers of different Services but with common technical or operational interests work, train and live together. In addition, each Service's Staff College takes pupils from the other Services, and devotes 20 per cent. of its curriculum to joint Services training.

LORD BRAYE

My Lords, may I thank the noble Earl for his Answer?
