My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether financial assistance from the Ministry of Defence to Combined Cadet Forces in schools is dependent on membership of the Forces being compulsory.]

My Lords, the grants paid to contingents of the Combined Cadet Forces are not dependent on membership being compulsory. Combined Cadet Forces regulations state that the C.C.F. is a voluntary and part-time force.
