HL Deb 23 December 1964 vol 262 cc901-2

LORD DENHAM asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the maximum sentence that may be given to a man convicted of robbery (1) with violence, and (2) without violence; and how much remission is available for good conduct in each case.

LORD STONHAM

For robbery with violence, or robbery while armed or in company with others, the maximum sentence is imprisonment for life; for simple robbery it is imprisonment for fourteen years. Under the Prison Rules 1964, every prisoner serving a sentence of imprisonment for a fixed term of more than one month may, on the ground of his industry and good conduct, be granted remission of up to one-third of the term of his sentence.
