§ 2.32 p.m.
§ VISCOUNT LONGMy Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.
§ [The Question was as follows:
§ To ask Her Majesty's Government what are the conditions under which the Bath Glider Club have been granted a licence to use the Steeple Ashton Aerodrome and whether the local constabulary and the adjoining landowners have been consulted.]
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (LORD CARRINGTON)My Lords, the Air Ministry are considering a number of applications from various clubs, including the Bath Gliding Club, for licences to use this airfield. They have consulted, as a matter of courtesy, all the interested local authorities, of whom only one has objected. A final decision has not yet been taken.
§ VISCOUNT LONGMy Lords, I am grateful indeed to my noble friend for his Answer. May I ask him this one question? If a licence were granted, would there or would there not be an insurance policy which would cover any loss of life by landowners and their livestock or destruction of their buildings?
§ LORD CARRINGTONMy Lords, I really do not know the answer to that question; but, if I may, I will write to the noble Lord and let him know.
§ VISCOUNT LONGCertainly, my Lords.
