HL Deb 26 March 1963 vol 248 c67

2.32 p.m.

VISCOUNT LONG

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what are the conditions under which the Bath Glider Club have been granted a licence to use the Steeple Ashton Aerodrome and whether the local constabulary and the adjoining landowners have been consulted.]

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (LORD CARRINGTON)

My Lords, the Air Ministry are considering a number of applications from various clubs, including the Bath Gliding Club, for licences to use this airfield. They have consulted, as a matter of courtesy, all the interested local authorities, of whom only one has objected. A final decision has not yet been taken.

VISCOUNT LONG

My Lords, I am grateful indeed to my noble friend for his Answer. May I ask him this one question? If a licence were granted, would there or would there not be an insurance policy which would cover any loss of life by landowners and their livestock or destruction of their buildings?

LORD CARRINGTON

My Lords, I really do not know the answer to that question; but, if I may, I will write to the noble Lord and let him know.

VISCOUNT LONG

Certainly, my Lords.
