HL Deb 31 July 1963 vol 252 c1135

2.5 p.m.

VISCOUNT BRIDGEMAN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the first Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they have yet been able to give further consideration to the position of widows of Regular officers in the Armed Services who were bereaved before November 4, 1958, and if so, what action they propose to take.]

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (LORD CARRINGTON)

My Lords, Her Majesty's Government regret that they are not in a position to make any statement on this question at present.

VISCOUNT BRIDGEMAN

My Lords, is my noble friend aware that many people in this House and outside attach great importance to justice being done to Service widows, and would therefore like to express the hope that the Government will give the matter urgent study with a view to making an announcement during the next Session?

LORD CARRINGTON

Yes, my Lords, the Government are very well aware of what my noble friend says. A review has begun, but I do not think I can say now when it will be completed.

VISCOUNT BRIDGEMAN

I am much obliged to my noble friend.
