§ Clause 4, page 5, line 25, leave out ("three") and insert ("half-past two").
§ LORD CRAIGTONMy Lords, could we take this with Amendment No. 13, and also Nos. 15 and 44? I think we did very well in this House. This is the only Amendment made in another place in the hours upon which your Lordships decided. The general weekday licensing hours are by this Amendment reduced by half-an-hour, by closing at 2.30 p.m., instead of 3 p.m., on weekdays. This meets a point made by my noble friend Lord Haddington and other noble Lords, that 881 closing at 3.10 p.m. and opening at 5 o'clock allowed too little time for the staff to clean up and relax. But the Guest Committee's point of an early break being inconvenient to travellers still had to be met, and it is met by the new clause (Amendment No. 15) which allows drinks with meals to be supplied up to 3 o'clock. The new clause is somewhat long, but it is merely the supper extension provisions of Clause 5, adjusted and repeated for lunch time. I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.
§ Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Craigton.)
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
