HL Deb 17 July 1962 vol 242 cc545-6

3.39 p.m.

House in Committee (according to Order).

House resumed.

On Question, Whether the Bill shall be reported without amendment?

VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGH

My Lords, I may not be here when the Report stage is taken, and I think that at this stage I ought to say that the only reason we refrained from putting down Amendments to make the age at which these weapons should be permitted to juveniles much higher was that we felt that if we were to put down Amendments the passing of the Bill this Session, even with its present provisions, would probably be prejudiced. But if ever another Bill is brought forward, we hope that the law will be further amended.

EARL FERRERS

My Lords, I am most grateful to the noble Viscount for what he has said, and for his generosity of mind in not putting down an Amendment. As he so rightly points out, had one been put down, almost certainly those provisions which are in this Bill would have fallen by the wayside. Therefore I am grateful to him for not putting down Amendments.

Bill reported without amendment; Report received.
