HL Deb 04 July 1962 vol 241 cc1234-5

2.46 p.m.

BARONESS WOOTTON OF ABINGER

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the second Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government in how many cases receivers have been appointed under the Mental Health Act 1959, and in how many of these cases have the fees normally charge-able to receivers been waived or reduced.]

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (VIS-COUNT KILMUIR)

My Lords, approximately 3,600 receivers have been appointed since November 1, 1960, when the Act came into operation. Fees have been postponed or remitted in approximately 250 of those cases, and in 1,065 other cases in which it has not been necessary to appoint a receiver. I shall be dealing with the question of Court of Protection fees later this afternoon during the course of my speech in the debate on the Motion of my noble friend Lord Feversham.

BARONESS WOOTTON OF ABINGER

My Lords, I am very much obliged to the noble and learned Viscount for his Answer.
