HL Deb 03 July 1962 vol 241 cc1166-7

Read 3a, with the Amendments.

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (LORD MERTHYR)

My Lords, I beg to move the following Amendment to this Bill: in Clause 19, page 11, line 17, leave out the words "authorised to supply" and insert the word "supplying". This has been suggested by the Promoters and is approved by all parties concerned. Clause 19 repeals certain enactments, but, by a proviso, the clause is not to come into effect until Section 37 of the Third Schedule of the Water Act, 1945, is brought into operation and applied throughout the area in which the company is authorised to supply. This part of the area overlaps the area of supply of the Metropolitan Water Board. In that part of the area Section 37 does not apply because the Third Schedule of the 1945 Act has not been adopted by the Metropolitan Walter Board. Therefore, unless this Amendment was made, the whole of Clause 19 of this Bill could not be put into operation. I think there is no opposition to this Amendment, and I beg to move.

Amendment moved— Clause 19, page 11, line 17, leave out ("authorised to supply") and insert ("supplying").—(Lord Merthyr.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

Bill passed, and returned to the Commons.
