HL Deb 04 May 1961 vol 230 c1362
THE EARL OF DUNDEE

My Lords, this Draft Order amends the Cotton Industry Development Order, 1948. Under the Industrial Organisation and Development Act, 1947, the Amendment is being made at the request of the industry, and its purpose is to enable the Cotton Board to collect levy for the purpose of industrial research from firms which process man-made fibres, in the same way as a levy is now collected from cotton-spinning firms. The Amendment requires an Affirmative. Resolution of both Houses, and I beg to move that it be approved.

Moved, That the Draft Cotton Industry Development Council (Amendment No. 4) Order, 1961, be approved.—(The Earl of Dundee.)

LORD SHACKLETON

My Lords, this is obviously a non-controversial matter. The only thing is that it is rather surprising we have not done it before. But certainly we on this side of the House welcome it.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
