HL Deb 13 March 1961 vol 229 c606
EARL ST. ALDWYN

My Lords on behalf of my noble friend, Lord Hailsham, I beg to move the Motion standing in his name on the Order Paper.

Moved, That leave be given to advance the Motion standing in the name of the Earl of Bessborough from Tuesday, the 28th instant to Wednesday, the 22nd instant.—(Earl St. Aldwyn.)

VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGH

My Lords, I shall certainly not object to this Motion, but may I take this opportunity of raising the question of Business to-day? This is an extraordinary situation into which, apparently, Members of the House have got themselves. I believe there are 30 speakers down for to-day on what are apparently both important issues. I do not see how we are going to get through and give everybody a chance to speak unless part of the Business is adjourned to another day.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL AND MINISTER FOR SCIENCE (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM)

My Lords. I think the noble Viscount is certainly right in saying that it is an unexpected position. I certainly did not expect it when I came to my office today. We must just see how we get on. I realise that the noble Viscount has raised an important and valuable point, and I know that my noble friend will he available for consultation a little later.

VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGH

We shall see.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
