HL Deb 29 June 1961 vol 232 c1135

3.6 p.m.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL AND MINISTER FOR SCIENCE (VISCOUNT HAILSHAM)

My Lords, before proceeding to Business, I hope the House will allow me to make a small correction in the OFFICIAL REPORT of my speech last night. At the top of column 1130 I am reported as saying: And the universal substitution of fertilisers for animal manure on the farms would make a great difference to the available food. In the context, it might be thought that I was recommending the substitution of fertilisers for animal manures. My Lords, if I had said that I could hardly have lifted up my head, either as a farmer or as Minister for Science. What I really said was: …the universal substitution of tractors for animal traction on the farms would make a great difference to the available food.
