HL Deb 18 December 1961 vol 236 cc499-500
VISCOUNT GOSCHEN

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they have any information as to the direct methods of communication which exist between the United Nations Headquarters in New York and their Representative in the Congo.]

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE EARL OF DUNDEE)

My Lords, I understand that the United Nations are equipped with modern signals equipment and that they communicate with their representatives and forces in the Congo by up-to-date methods. But I have no details of the United Nations' communication system which is not a matter falling within the purviewor responsibility of Her Majesty's Government.

VISCOUNT GOSCHEN

I thank the noble Earl for his Answer.
