§ LORD ALLERTONMy Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.
§ [The Question was as follows:
§ To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will consider amending section 7 of the Finance Act, 1956, to permit the installation of side windows in vans to improve visibility in the interests of road safety without thereby rendering the vans liable to purchase tax.]
§ THE EARL OF PERTHNo, my Lords: such an Amendment would nullify the intention of the section, which was designed to stop loss of revenue from the conversion of vans into taxable vehicles, such as estate cars.
§ LORD ALLERTONMy Lords, I thank the noble Earl for his reply.
