HL Deb 13 December 1960 vol 227 cc376-7
THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (THE EARL OF DUNDEE)

My Lords, this is an Order under the Industrial Improvements and Development Act, 1947, which enables a levy to be imposed on people engaged in an industry for certain purposes, including scientific research. The levy imposed on the cutlery and stainless steel industry in this Order is calculated to raise about £10,000 and this, together with an appropriate grant from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, will be spent on scientific research with the purpose of improving the competitive power of the industry in its export trade. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Draft Cutlery and Stainless Steel Flatware Industry (Scientific Research Levy) Order, 1960, be approved.—(The Earl of Dundee.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
