§ 2.42 p.m.
§ THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (THE EARL OF DUNDEE)My Lords, the changes which are proposed by these Regulations were included in the statement of the Minister of Pensions which I read to your Lordships on November 2, and probably your Lordships will not wish me to explain them 268 in any detail. As I think your Lordships know, the rate for a married couple is increased from 85s. to 90s., and for the single householder from 50s. to 53s. 6d. Comparable changes are made in adult and child dependants' allowances, going up to 49s. 6d. for an adult dependant and to 17s. for the child under five. The full changes are contained in the Explanatory Memorandum issued by the National Assistance Board which accompanies these Regulations. I beg to move.
§ Moved, That the Draft National Assistance (Determination of Need) Amendment Regulations, 1960, be approved.—(The Earl of Dundee.)
§ LORD SILKINThe noble Earl said, "90s." for a married couple. Was that a slip for 92s. 6d.?
§ THE EARL OF DUNDEEMy Lords, I believe the noble Lord is thinking of the contributory pension. My statement —90s.—was right.
§ On Question, Motion agreed to.
