HL Deb 19 November 1959 vol 219 c752

2.13 p.m.

EARL HOWE

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether it can now be stated when the plan for the widening of the Denham end of the Western Avenue will be commenced and completed, observing that this stretch of the Avenue has provided many serious accidents under present conditions.]

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT (LORD CHESHAM)

My Lords, work on this scheme, which is part of the improvement of A.40 outwards from London, is expected to start early in 1960. Tenders for the construction of the viaduct are about to be invited by the Middlesex County Council as agent authority for the Ministry. I hope that the scheme, which will provide a second carriageway along this length of Western Avenue, will be completed by the early summer of 1961.

EARL HOWE

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord very much.
