[The references are to Bill (62) as first printed for the House of Commons.]

Clause 1, page 2, line 9, after ("crofters") insert ("and of the persons so appointed at least one shall, in the opinion of the Secretary of State, represent the interests of farmers, and at least one shall represent the interests of crofters").

LORD FORBES

My Lords, the effect of this Amendment is that in selecting three members of the Red Deer Commission from nominees of organisations representing farmers and crofters my right honourable friend the Secretary of State will appoint at least one representative of farmers and one of crofters—in other words, it is recognised now that crofters have a special place in the Highland economy, and it gives them a definite voice on the Commission. I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Forbes.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
