HL Deb 13 May 1959 vol 216 cc356-7

Clause 21, page 9, line 26, leave out from ("imprisonment") to end of line 30.

LORD FORBES

The effect of this Amendment is to delete the penalty provision for the conviction on indictment of a person killing deer during the close season. The purpose of the close season is not to deter poaching, which is dealt with in Part III, but to facilitate the conservation of deer and to prevent cruelty by the owner or occupier—for instance, to prevent the shooting of a hind with a suckling calf. I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Forbes.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
