HL Deb 06 May 1959 vol 216 c142
LORD WINDLESHAM

My Lord,I beg to ask the second Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government if they will state—

  1. (1)on what date the plans for the Chiswick fly-over were approved and the contract signed with the construction company;
  2. (2)when it is expected that the Chiswick fly-over will be open for traffic.]

EARL BATHURST

My Lords, plans for the Chiswick fly-over, at the western end of the Cromwell Road extension, were approved in March, 1956, and a contract with the Alderton Construction Company was signed in January, 1957. Work is well advanced and is expected to be completed by the autumn of this year. The problem of carrying out these works without excessive delay to traffic at one of the busiest junctions in the London area has made it impossible for the work to be carried out at greater speed.

LORD WINDLESHAM

My Lords, I thank the noble Earl for his Answer and, as one who has to use that particular fly-over very often going to and from the Airport, I only hope that other noble Lords are satisfied with that reply.
