HL Deb 17 June 1959 vol 216 c1252
LORD DOWDING

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many premises under the direction of the Animal Health Trust are registered under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876 for the performance of experiments on living animals, and where they are located; also, how many of the Trust's employees hold licences under the Act.]

LORD CHESHAM

My Lords, three research establishments belonging to the Trust are registered under the Act—namely, the Equine Research Station, Newmarket, the Canine Research Station, Kennett, near Newmarket, and Lilystone Hall, Stock, Essex. Three of the Trust's employees at Newmarket are licensed under the Act, three at Kennett, and four at Stock. In addition, two other licensees under the Act are licensed to perform experiments at Newmarket, one other at Kennett, and one at both Newmarket and Kennett.

LORD DOWDING

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord very much.
