§ VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGHMy Lords, I beg leave to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper. I ought to explain that this Question was drafted before the events of the last three or four days, which have overtaken it. I am sure the noble Earl will understand that.
§ [The Question was as follows:
§ To ask Her Majesty's Government if they are now in a position to make a statement on Cyprus.]
THE EARL OF HOMEYes, my Lords. I think the only thing I can do to-day is to say that I will certainly keep the House in the closest touch with the consultations at present going on. If a statement by the Prime Minister is possible in another place this week, I will make it here also. If it is not possible and there should be a statement on Monday, I think the House would probably like to sit, and I will therefore consult with the Opposition a little later this week to see what the situation is.
