§ 2.45 p.m.
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR COMMONWEALTH RELATIONS (THE EARL OF HOME)My Lords, I promised the House yesterday that I would make a statement to-day on the matters raised by the Lord Chairman of Committees on the Kent County Council Bill. Conversations have taken place through the usual channels and a debate has been fixed for Wednesday next. I understand that the Lord Chairman has drafted a Motion, which he hopes to discuss with the noble Lord, Lord Silkin. The Motion will be in a form which will enable a debate to take place on the principles that were raised in the Lord Chairman's statement yesterday. I think, 305 therefore, that with your Lordships' agreement we might leave matters where they are to-day and debate the matter next week.
§ LORD SILKINMy Lords, the noble Earl is quite right. I had intended to put down a form of Motion. I do not know whether the Motion referred to by the noble Earl is the final form. If so, I presume that it will appear on the Order Paper to-morrow.
