HL Deb 29 May 1957 vol 204 c59

2.35 p.m.

LORD BLACKFORD

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they will invite Her Majesty's Opposition to join them in devising an agreed scheme for the improvement of pensions with a view to the settlement of this important subject on sound economic lines, and to avoidance of its use as bait in competitive Party politics.]

LORD CHESHAM

My Lords, while attaching great importance to the considerations which my noble friend has in mind, Her Majesty's Government do not think that in all the circumstances his suggestion could usefully be followed.

LORD BLACKFORD

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for his Answer.
