HL Deb 03 July 1957 vol 204 c591

2.35 p.m.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR COMMONWEALTH RELATIONS AND LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (THE EARL OF HOME)

My Lords, I have, I am afraid, a grievous announcement to make to your Lordships. The House will have heard with a profound sense of shock of the sudden death of Lord Cherwell. I rise now only to say that I propose, if this course meets with the general convenience of your Lordships, that we should pay tribute to this eminent public servant and distinguished Member of this House to-morrow afternoon before the beginning of Business at three o'clock.

LORD SILKIN

My Lords, I am sure that that will be a very proper course to take in the circumstances.

LORD REA

My Lords, I should like to endorse what my noble friend on my left has said.
