HL Deb 05 February 1957 vol 201 c417
THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

I beg to move the Motion standing in my name.

Moved, That Standing Order No. 41 be considered in order to its being dispensed with for the purpose of passing the Ghana Independence Bill through its remaining stages.—(The Marquess of Salisbury.)

THE EARL OF SWINTON

Before the Motion is put, may I ask the noble Marquess whether he can give the House any indication when the remaining stages of this Bill will be taken?

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

We hope to finish the Committee stage this afternoon. The further stages will of course depend on the Business to-day.

THE EARL OF SWINTON

It would be quite wrong to anticipate whether or not the Bill will pass without amendment, but I do not know whether it would be proper to ask if the noble Marquess will indicate, assuming it is passed without amendment, when the Third Reading will be taken.

THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY

If there were no amendment, then all the stages would be taken this afternoon.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.
