HL Deb 19 December 1957 vol 206 c1323
THE LORD CHANCELLOR (VISCOUNT KILMUIR)

My Lords, I beg leave to introduce a Bill to consolidate certain enactments relating to the giving of financial assistance for the provision of housing accommodation and to other financial matters. In moving the First Reading of this Consolidation Bill, may I say one word? It is the last Consolidation Bill in regard to which I shall move any stage this year, and I should like your Lordships to allow me to convey to Parliamentary Counsel the appreciation of this House of the great and assiduous work that they have done during the year in the field of consolidation. My late noble and learned friend Lord Jowitt had this matter very near to his heart, and I want to tresspass on your Lordships' time for only a moment to say that the work is continuing_ I believe, according to his desire. I beg to move.

Moved, that the Bill be now read 1a.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Bill read 1a, and to be printed.
