HL Deb 11 December 1957 vol 206 cc1023-4

2.42 p.m.

Considered on Report (according to Order).

THE MINISTER OF STATE, SCOTTISH OFFICE (LORD STRATHCLYDE)

My Lords, I regret having to trouble your Lordships' House with the Amendments to this Bill which appear in my name on the Marshalled List, and with your Lordships' permission I will speak to all the Amendments together. They are due to two errors in printing which have crept in between one stage and the next. In my opinion this is a most unusual thing, and for that we have to thank the efficiency of the printers. The first error is in the Schedule at page 141, line 43, where words have been omitted and other words, which should properly appear two lines later, have been inserted. One Amendment corrects that error. The second error is a small one; it occurs on page 227, line 25, where the word "or" has been omitted. The Amendments to the Preamble are consequential on these two Amendments. They are necessary because the provisional Order has not to be confirmed as drafted, but subject to the removal of the printing errors. I am now advised that it is unnecessary to amend Clause 1 of the Bill, and, with your Lordships' permission, I propose not to move the Amendment to page 1, line 11. I beg to move.

Amendment moved— In the Preamble, page 1, line 1, leave out the first ("the") and insert ("a").—(Lord Strathclyde.)

On Question, Amendment agreed to.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (VISCOUNT KILMUIR)

My Lords, it may be for the convenience of the House if I put the remaining Amendments en bloc.

Amendments moved—

In the Preamble, page 1, line 1, leave out ("set forth in the schedule hereunto annexed") and insert ("relating to Dundee Corporation (Consolidated Powers)")

In the Preamble, page 1, line 5, leave out ("requisite") and insert ("expedient")

In the Preamble, page 1, line 5, after ("should") insert ("subject to amendment")

In the Schedule, page 141, line 43, leave out ("dealing with residual products shall be paid by the") and insert ("plant provided at the slaughterhouses in the city for the")

In the Schedule, page 227, line 25, after ("section") insert ("or").—(Lord Strathclyde.)

On Question, Amendments agreed to.
