HL Deb 11 April 1957 vol 202 c1248

2.36 p.m.

VISCOUNT ELIBANK

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they can state the present position regarding the conversations which have taken place with the United States Government on the subject of the embargo on trade with China.]

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE EARL OF GOSFORD)

My Lords, I regret that I have nothing further to add at present to the reply which I gave to the second part of the noble Viscount's Question on April 9 last.

VISCOUNT ELIBANK

My Lords, I beg to thank the noble Earl for his Answer. May I take it that he understands that whilst not wishing to press him unduly on this matter, British industrialists are necessarily anxious to know the nature of new arrangements made by the Government in relation to the China embargo?

THE EARL OF GOSFORD

My Lords, the Government fully understands the feelings of the industrialists in question and those of the noble Viscount in particular.
