HL Deb 04 April 1957 vol 202 c1096

Order of the Day for the House to be put into Committee read.

Moved, That the House do now resolve itself into Committee.—(Earl St. Aldwyn.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House in Committee accordingly.

[The EARL OF DROGHEDA in the Chair]

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES

No Amendments have been set down to this Bill, and the Question is that I report it to the House without amendment. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Bill be reported without amendment.—(The Earl of Drogheda.)

VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGH

On the Question that this Bill be reported, may I say that I think it is an excellent Bill. I was not able to speak upon it at Second Reading. We are very anxious in the rural areas about the rapid increase over the past two years in the price of white fish meal, which is, of course, a very important agricultural foodstuff. If, at a later stage of the Bill, the Parliamentary Secretary could tell us something about this matter we should be grateful.

EARL ST. ALDWYN

I am not sure whether I followed the noble Viscount. I gather that he is worried about the price of white fish meal. Is that correct?

VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGH

Yes, the price has become almost prohibitive.

EARL ST. ALDWYN

I think the best course would be for the noble Viscount to put down a Question on the subject.

On Question, Motion agreed to.

House resumed: Bill reported without amendment.
