HL Deb 25 October 1956 vol 199 c1067

3.5 p.m.

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES (THE EARL OF DROGHEDA)

My Lords, one of the recommendations of the Joint Committee on Private Bill Procedure, which met in 1954 and 1955 was that the House fees payable during the various stages of Private Bills should be the same in each House and should be very considerably reduced, especially to Petitioners and to promoters of small unopposed Bills. The Offices of the two Houses have been discussing amendments in the scale of fees in the light of that recommendation, and the result of their deliberations is set out in the scale of fees which your Lordships will find on the Order Paper.

I do not think that your Lordships will wish me to go into that scale in any detail. The new scale proposed is an improvement on, and is simpler than, the old scale, and I beg to move that the Amendments be made to the Standing Orders relative to Private and Provisional Order Confirmation Bills, et cetera, in accordance with the scale set forth in the Order Paper.

Moved, That the following Amendments be made in the Standing Orders relative to Private and Provisional Order Confirmation Bills, etc., viz.:— Page 94, leave out Appendix C and insert the following new Appendix C:
