§ Order of the Day for the consideration of the Fifth Report from the Select Committee read.
§ The Committee reported as follows:
§ 1.…ROYAL COMMISSION ON THE CIVIL SERVICE.
§ The Committee sanctioned the application of Treasury Establishments Circulars Nos. 27156 and 28/56 dated 25th June, 1956, giving revised rates of pa' to the officers and officials of the House of Lords.
§ The Committee also sanctioned consequential increases in superannuation awards to two officers retiring this year.
§ 2.— JCANT COMMITTEE ON PRIVATE BILL PROCEDURE.
§ The Committee considered the Joint Committee's recommendation that the record copies of Private Acts he printed on paper of suitable strength and durability, instead of on vellum, and were of the opinion that the Clerk of the Parliaments should make arrangements with the Stationery Office to carry out this recommendation.
§ 3.—HISTORICAL RECORDS.
§ The Committee considered an application for the loan of the original copy of the Bill of Rights for exhibition at Jamestown. U.S.A. They were of the opinion that the official record copies of Acts of Parliament should not be allowed to pass out of the custody of the House at any time, but that other classes of documents might be lent in suitable cases for exhibition; and they considered that if this application could be met by permission to exhibit another document from the records iii the Victoria Tower, it should be granted.
