My Lords, I beg leave to introduce a Bill to make, in lieu of the provisions in that behalf of the Shops Act, 1950, fresh provision with respect to times at which shops must close on weekdays, the times at which retail trade or business may, on weekdays, be carried on otherwise than in shops, Sunday trading and the conditions of employment of shop assistants and other persons employed in connection with retail trade or business and of young persons employed in certain occupations in connection with wholesale trade; to amend the provisions of that Act relating to the enforcement thereof; and for purposes connected with the matters aforesaid. I beg to move that this Bill be read a first time.
