HL Deb 07 March 1956 vol 196 cc127-8

2.35 p.m.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (LORD CARRINGTON)

My Lords, On behalf of my noble friend, Lord St. Aldwyn, I beg to move that this Order be approved. The purpose of this Order, the last in a series, is to provide Parliamentary authority under Section 4 of the Agriculture Act, 1947, for the method in which the Government are implementing the price guarantee for milk. In this case, the necessary payments from the Exchequer are made to the five milk marketing boards in the United Kingdom, and the arrangements for doing this have been in operation in their present form in Great Britain since April 1, 1954, and in Northern Ireland since the same date in 1955. The present Order makes no change either in the method of paying the guarantees or in their amounts, both of which have been explained in White Papers following the Annual Reviews. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Milk (Guaranteed Prices) Order, 1956, reported from the Special Orders Committee on Wednesday last, be approved.—(Lord Carrington.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
