HL Deb 21 June 1956 vol 197 cc1204-5

Clause 27, page 17, line 31, leave out lines 311 to 34.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, this is out of the run of drafting Amendments but, with Amendment No. 29, it substitutes for the old proviso a proviso to subsection (3) the elect of which is to prevent the committal of a debtor to prison for neglect to attend at an adjourned hearing of a judgment unless his travelling expenses were paid to him on the service of the judgment summons or on the service of the subsequent order to attend. I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

(Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.

VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGH

My Lords, the noble and learned Viscount is treating us all so courteously but I am wondering, since we are all in agreement, whether we could save some time by taking all the Amendments on each clause en bloc, clause by clause.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

Certainly, if I may do that. I am grateful to the noble Viscount for his kindness to me.
