HL Deb 26 July 1956 vol 199 c352
EARL FORTESCUE

My Lords, I should first like to reply to the remarks which the noble Lord. Lord Lucas of Chilworth, directed at me a few minutes ago. I am sorry to see that he is not in his place. I think the short answer to the query which he has raised is that we shall re-commit Bills, where they are thought to be contentious, wherever possible and whenever we have time. I do not think there is any argument about that. But I feel that there can be no doubt that when we are as pressed, as we have been, it is rather difficult to find time to do so.

I have to inform your Lordships that we hope to adjourn for the Summer Recess next Thursday until Tuesday, 23rd October. At the same time I would inform your Lordships that we shall meet next Thursday at 12 o'clock noon, when it is expected that we shall have a Royal Commission.

LORD SILKIN

My Lords, may I ask whether there is any Business other than the Royal Commission next Thursday?

EARL FORTESCUE

The answer is, No.
