My Lords. I beg to ask the second Question which stands in my name on the, Order Paper.

To ask Her Majesty's Government the total expenditure by the Government on aircraft development since the war.]

LORD DE L'ISLE AND DUDLEY

My Lords, in the period from April 1, 1946, to March 31, 1955, the Government spent approximately £360 million on aircraft research and development.
