HL Deb 02 November 1955 vol 194 c209
LORD VANSITTART

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask whether any tanks have recently been sent from this country to Egypt, whether any are now due and, if so—seeing the dangerous xenophobia now fostered by the Egyptian Government—whether delivery will be suspended.]

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE MARQUESS OF READING)

My Lords, it is contrary to the Government's normal practice to disclose details or quantities of military equipment supplied to foreign Governments. But I cart say that no tanks have been supplied to Egypt since the middle of August. No further deliveries are at present due, and there is therefore no question of suspending them.

LORD VANSITTART

My Lords, I am much relieved by the noble Marquess's Answer; and having had two good Answers in two days, there is nothing more for me to say.
