HL Deb 09 March 1955 vol 191 c825

2.36 p.m.

EARL FORTESCUE

My Lords, a great many of your Lordships have given notice of your intention to take part in the debate this afternoon on the Motion in the name of the noble Viscount, Lord Samuel. It will be a great advantage to Her Majesty's Government to have so fall an expression of the views of your Lordships' House on the subject of the reform of the House. Over twenty of your Lordships are to speak, and, with this in view, it has been agreed through the usual channels to postpone the Government business which is down for Thursday, March 10, until Tuesday, March 22, so as to allow the debate this afternoon to run over until to-morrow. We hope to adjourn this evening between 7 and 7.30 p.m., and to conclude the debate not later than 6.30 p.m. to- morrow. We shall hope to take the Third Reading of the Road Traffic Bill on Thursday, the 24th.
