HL Deb 14 July 1955 vol 193 c802
EARL FORTESCUE

My Lords, I have to inform your Lordships that there will be a formal Sitting of the House tomorrow afternoon at half-past four to receive the Wireless Telegraphy (Blind Persons) Bill and the County Courts Bill from another place. Both these Bills the Government hope to pass into law before the Recess. The County Courts Bill has already been through your Lordships' House in the last Parliament, and was one of the unfortunates of the Dissolution. It now comes back to your Lordships from the Commons with certain Amendments, which will, I believe, largely meet the criticisms made here when the Bill was before your Lordships in the last Parliament. Noble Lords opposite have kindly promised to cooperate in the progress of this Bill to the Statute Book. The Wireless Telegraphy (Blind Persons) Bill is not expected to arouse any opposition in any quarter. We propose to take the Second Reading of this Bill on Tuesday, and the Second Reading of the County Courts Bill as first Order on Wednesday next when a Motion enabling it to have precedence will be tabled. Neither Bill is expected to occupy much parliamentary time.
