HL Deb 14 July 1955 vol 193 c761

2.5 p.m.

EARL JOWITT

My Lords, may I ask the Leader of the House what is to be done about the Business of the House to-day? Some of us are bidden to a function, and, indeed, bidden to a particular place at the function at 5 o'clock. It is going to be almost impossible, I think, to get back here at 5.45. Would it not be better, therefore, if we do have to come back—of course, if we could finish the business before we depart for the function I have mentioned so that we should not have to come back, that is a consummation devoutly to be wished—that we should come back, say, at 6.15, instead of 5.45. I do not see how we can get back at 5.45.

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE DUCHY OF LANCASTER (VISCOUNT WOOLTON)

My Lords, would 6 o'clock meet your Lordships' convenience?

EARL FORTESCUE

My Lords, in reply to the noble and learned Earl may I say that, if your Lordships have to come back at all, I think it would be convenient that we should come back at 6 o'clock rather than at 5.45. We still hope that it may not be necessary to come back.

EARL JOWITT

I am much obliged; that is something, at any rate.
