HL Deb 15 December 1955 vol 195 c180
LORD KILLEARN

My Lords, I rise to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they can make available to the House a reliable translation of the utterances in regard to this country by the Russian leaders during their recent visit to (1) India, (2) Burma.]

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE MARQUESS OF READING)

My Lords, no official transcripts of the utterances in question exist. We have had to rely on Press reports which are, of course, already available to the noble Lord.

LORD KILLEARN

My Lords, I thank the noble Marquess for his answer. Flowing from it, would he agree that, in the light of the reports of those utterances as appearing in the Press here, the adjective "hypocritical" is neither misplaced nor inaccurate?

THE MARQUESS OF READING

Whatever one's view may be, that does not arise out of the Question on the Paper.

LORD KILLEARN

Surely it does.
