HL Deb 08 December 1955 vol 194 c1260
THE CHANCELLOR OF THE DUCHY OF LANCASTER (VISCOUNT WOOLTON)

My Lords, perhaps I may interrupt the proceedings of your Lordships' House in order to inform your Lordships that if we have made the necessary progress with our Business we hope to adjourn for the Christmas Recess at the close of the sitting on Wednesday, December 21. We shall resume our sittings for Public Business on Tuesday, January 24.

LORD SILKIN

My Lords, I am sure we are all grateful to the noble Viscount for that statement, and particularly for the last sentence. But would the noble Viscount kindly explain what he means by his reference to our making sufficient progress with our Business, so that we may know what we have to aim at?

VISCOUNT WOOLTON

My Lords, I think it depends really upon how quickly matters go in another place, because there is certain legislation that we must get through.
